New season of 茎的女孩 programs open for registration Oct. 1
Free program connects women scientists, experts and mentors with aspiring young women
CINCINNATI – Cincinnati Museum Center (CMC) is working to bridge the gender gap in STEM fields and to inspire the next generation of scientists, 工程师, 化学家 and doctors with 茎的女孩. The free program connects girls (and boys) ages 7 to 14 with local women STEM professionals through hands-on programming that showcases just how cool STEM fields can be. Winter 茎的女孩 programs are available for registration October 1.
As more careers utilize STEM (science, 技术, engineering and mathematics) skills, getting children interested early is critical for future success. This is especially important for young girls for whom science classes and careers are often not targeted. 茎的女孩 connects elementary and middle school-ages girls with STEM content in an engaging way that makes them eager to learn more. The program also introduces girls to experts in STEM fields including biologists, 化学家, 营养学家, 数据分析师, 地质学家等, showing them that STEM fields really are for everyone.
茎的女孩 features programs at 结合终端 and in the community, where participants will go directly to the labs, facilities and workplaces of women actively working in STEM fields. 这个冬天, participants will work with the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied 科学 to get a firsthand look at the wide range of engineering careers. They’ll also enter the recording studio alongside DJs and audio 工程师 at WMKV 89.3, learning about the equipment and skills that pipe music and talk shows over the airwaves.
